Trévoux: the world capital of drawing die

Rue de Trévoux (01)

Located in the heart of the Auvergne Rhone Alpes region, 25 kms from Lyon, Trevoux was the birth-place of the drawing die trades.

In the XV century, it became the capital city of the principality of the dombes where gold wiredrawers were exempted from royal taxes.

Benefitting there of advantageous fiscal conditions, they inundated Europe with their golden and silver wires.

In 1762 Trevoux became French and lost his privileges, however the tradition of drawing was maintened.

The metal wire obtained in the past by hammering from then drawn through harder and harder materials (wood, iron, steel, ruby then sapphire).

In 1865 Trevoux the first drawing die in natural die was pierced and gave the town a technical superiority wich will make of Trevoux the world capital of drawing die.

In the 1920’s the drawing die makers shipped in the all world.

Trevoux kept the monopoly of the drawing die until WW2.
